Technical Difficulties

You may have noticed that there was no audio at our Wednesday, September 5, 2018 Council meeting.  We are working with our cable provider to identify the problem and hope to have it resolved by the next meeting.  We apologize for the inconvenience.

Digital Council Meetings are on the Horizon

In an effort to reach, inform, and engage with residents and businesses, the City will be implementing streaming technology so the community can  watch Council meetings anytime and anywhere.  We hope to have this new service available sometime next year.

Sewer Master Plan Underway

The Council proactively authorized a Sewer Master Plan to assess the City's sewer system and identify any issues that may require repair and replacement.  The City needs a current master plan to inform future capital projects and comply with state mandated requirements. In addition, the City will complete a sanitary sewer management plan to ensure it is managing the wastewater collection effectively, and help reduce and prevent any overflows.

Council Directs Applicant to Revise Rezoning Proposal

On Wednesday, September 8, 2018, the Council held a public hearing to consider a proposed General Plan Amendment and rezoning request involving the construction of 19 residential apartments units located at 4627 Scotts Valley Drive (parking lot area in front of the SV Water District on SV Drive). The project included one 2-story building with 4 units and one 3-story building with 15 units.  The General Plan provides for commercial land use along Scotts Valley Drive and allows for residential behind the commercial development.  The project applicant requested an amendment to the General Plan and a rezoning to allow all residential.  The Council ultimately directed the applicant to work with staff to revise the project to be consistent with the City's existing General Plan designation.

Small City Partnership Generates Cost Savings

The City of Scotts Valley recently teamed up with the City of Capitola and jointly hired a Building Official to serve both agencies.  This partnership cut our staffing costs in half, while allowing the City to provide a part-time, on-site resource for residents and businesses.  Robin Woodman, our new Building Official started this week.

Glenwood Trails to Open Soon

We are excited about the anticipated opening of the Glenwood Open Space Preserve west trails. Trail volunteers continue to make progress on this new outdoor gem which we hope will be open within the next month.  Additionally, construction on the east trails is expected to begin in December.
