City Manager's Update
Week ending September 14, 2018

This week, several Council Members and I represented the City of Scotts Valley at the  annual League of California Cities Conference in Long Beach. Established in 1889, the League is an association of city officials who work together to enhance their knowledge and skills, exchange information, and combine resources to better serve their respective communities. We attended several great sessions, ranging from how to invest in and use technology to understanding new laws that impact affordable housing opportunities.

Town Green

Did you Attend the Town Green Community Open House?

Last Saturday, the Town Center developers held a open house at the community center to learn more about what our residents want in a Town Center.  The open house was well attended and many people asked questions and provided valuable feedback about retail, open space, and housing.  More meetings will be scheduled over the next 6 months and it is important that the community participate. Based on the input received from local residents and businesses, the developers will create a draft conceptual plan for further community discussion. Council to Consider Permanent Pickleball Court @ Skypark

On Wednesday, October 19, 2018, the Council will consider converting Court #4 at Skypark to a permanent pickleball court and making tennis-related improvements to Court #3, which would remain a shared pickleball/tennis court.  Read the report online.

Safe Routes to School

Join Ecology Action and Make Walking & Biking to School Safer

Over the next two years, Ecology Action and public agencies in the region will work together to develop a Safe Routes to Schools plan for 16 schools in Scotts Valley, Live Oak,  and Aptos, making it safer and easier for students to walk and bike to school.  To do this, we need your input!   Join Ecology Action for dinner (free burritos!) and learn how we can make walking/biking safer for our kids. The Scotts Valley meeting is scheduled for Thursday, October 4, 2018 at 6:30 pm at Scotts Valley High School.

Erik's Deli Cafe is Celebrating its 45th Anniversary! 

Come celebrate Erik's 45th Anniversary with the Scotts Valley Chamber of Commerce on Monday, September 17, 2018 from 11 am - 1:30 pm and meet the owner himself, Erik Johnson! Erik, along with local historian Jay Topping will share stories, photographs, and memorabilia about the history of the restaurant and Scotts Valley.

Road Restriping

Construction Work Scheduled for South Navarra and Granite Creek

The following is a schedule of upcoming road work on Granite Creek and Navarra Drive:
  • Monday, September 24:  Dig out and repave 8 locations on South Navarra Drive; dig out and repave 1 location on Granite Creek
  • Monday, October 1: Slurry seal all of South Navarra Drive
  • Tuesday, October 2: Slurry seal Granite Creek Road from Lauren Circle to city limits
  • Tuesday, October 9:  Re-stripe South Navarra Drive and Granite Creek Road
